Krista Michaels — Writer/Director STATIC (2025), MANTID (2023), ONE MONDAY (2020) — is a transgender filmmaker and cinematographer based in Denver, Colorado.
Co-Founder and CEO of Retro Raptor Films, Michaels made her short film directorial debut with ONE MONDAY after years of being in the entertainment industry, where she worked in theatre doing sound, set, and poster design. She later directed behind-the-scenes Blu-ray extras for the horror company, Scream Factory.
Michaels’ second horror film MANTID had a long festival run, and even won the “Audience Favorite” award at the Rocky Mountain Nightmares International Film Festival. Her latest film, STATIC, also had a lengthy festival life, securing the “Scariest Film” award at the HORROR Underground Film & Screenplay festival in Montreal, Canada.
Krista fell in love with cinema from an early age, as well as the tangible film format as a dual-35mm projectionist and, later, as a film photographer.
